This tutorial will teach you how to view the extensions of files in Windows operating systems. This will work in any of the Windows operating systems built by Microsoft.

First, open My Computer (referred to as Computer in recent Windows operating systems). Next click Tools, and then Folder Options.

If you do not see the "Tools" option, press Alt on your keyboard and it will make the option show up. A window like this will pop up after clicking Folder Options:

Click the View tab, scroll down a bit (if necessary) until you see "Hide extensions for known file types," uncheck the box next to that, then click OK.
