This tutorial will teach you how to rip a video DVD on to your computer using a free program called DVD Decrypter along with AnyDVD. Why use two programs? DVD Decrypter works great, but newer DVDs have newer and better encryption (copyright protection). Since DVD Decrypter is no longer updated by its developers, AnyDVD can be used to bypass the protection of these newer DVDs while DVD Decrypter simultaneously rips the files.
Alternatively, you can use only DVD Decrypter (for older DVDs), find out how by clicking here How to rip a DVD using DVD Decrypter. Or you can use only AnyDVD, find out how by clicking here How to rip a DVD using AnyDVD. But for this tutorial, I will teach you how to use both programs in conjunction.
But why use two programs if I could just use AnyDVD? While AnyDVD is capable of ripping your movies, DVD Decrypter is still regarded as the better ripping program for multiple reasons. I won't go into all of them now, but DVD Decrypter does do a faster job and adds extra decryption power along with AnyDVD. To add to that, DVD Decrypter is free; so you might as well use it instead of AnyDVD so you have two decryption programs working on cracking the DVD protection.
Quite simply, if you know how to rip a DVD using DVD Decrypter, this is about the same. On the other hand, if you don't, you'll want to read up on the DVD Decrypter tutorial mentioned above. After you've purchased (or pirated) and installed a copy of SlySoft's AnyDVD and have installed DVD Decrypter (download here) you are ready to begin.
Note: All the default settings in AnyDVD are sufficient for cracking the encryption on video DVDs, but feel free to change them to your liking.
Make sure you have AnyDVD running (you'll see it in your notification area), then insert your DVD into the DVD drive.
You'll see a message like this:

This means that AnyDVD is busy disabling the copyright protection on the DVD and (depending on your settings) possibly disabling a lot of other features/protections that are on the DVD.
After this message goes away, AnyDVD is done with the disc. Now open up DVD Decrypter. DVD Decrypter will see no protection on the disc, and you can begin ripping the DVD.
